The first album by the Backseat Lovers was an epiphany to me. I remember the first time I played it it took me out of myself and I felt light sunlight. Lomelda, Priscilla Ahn, Tomberlin, and Big Red Machine all remind me of each other. A bit sleepy, calming, and introspective…my favorite of the lot was definitely Big Red Machine. One of my favorite songs of all time is on there (Renegade). Fiona Apple also stood out to me. I loved her show tuney style, mixed with curious lyrics and unique titling choices. I had a whole Mitski marathon on January 31st where I listened to her entire discography. Top album was ‘Retired from Sad, New Career in Business’… although my favorite song is still Washing Machine Heart by far. I love her style and her voice is nigh perfect. “Simple Adorations” is a live album recorded near me by my friend Isaac. I am so proud of what he is accomplishing! It is a beautiful collection of songs of worship from the heart.
One of my favorite favorite albums in January was You Forgot it in People by the Broken Social Scene. I need to listen to the rest of their stuff; I really quite like it.
Anyway. a brief recap of the month of January.
